Biohacking Sleep how to get more sleep!

By Brian James Rose

Both young and old rely on sleep aids. However, a 2013 CDC report shows that sleeping pill use is more prevalent among older Americans. The most common sleep aids are:

  • OTC melatonin-based sleep supplements: Recommended for short-term use and mild insomnia precipitated by jet lag or shift work.
  • Hypnotics: These are prescription sleep medications, of which there are two types: benzodiazepines (Ativan, Xanax, Restoril) and non-benzodiazepines (also called selective GABA medications; they include Ambien, Lunesta, and Sonata). Benzodiazepines are said to be more habit-forming than non-benzodiazepines. Studies have also shown a correlation between benzodiazepine use and the increased risk of pneumonia in dementia patients.
  • OTC Sedating anti-histamines: These supplements include Diphenhydramine (Benadryl, ZzzQuil, Diphedryl, Unisom Sleepgels Maximum Strength). Note that they tend to precipitate daytime drowsiness.
  • Sleep-wake cycle modifiers: The newest prescription sleep supplements on the market, such as Ramelteon (Rozerem).

Biohacking Sleep how to get more sleep

By, Brian Rose Founder of KIYA Longevity

As a Biohacker, I completely submerged myself in neural enhancement, receiving training in a Neuro Performance Program with Vitanya Brain Performance, and completing Vipassana, a 10-day Silent Meditation Retreat. These experiences trained my brain to change its frequency from Alpha to Beta and taught me how to move energy within my body to benefit my mind.
