Liver function panel

MM slash DD slash YYYY

The liver plays a vital role in digestion of our food and detoxifying our blood of toxins. Liver disease is common, and affects over 30 million Americans. Symptoms of liver disease include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, swelling of the belly or legs, and yellowing of the skin or eyes. Damage to this important organ can come from alcohol, obesity, diabetes, medications (including Tylenol), and viral infections (such as hepatitis). The liver function panel fully investigates liver function by measuring the following levels:

• Aspartate aminotransferase (AST)
• Alanine aminotransferase (ALT)
• Albumin
• Albumin/Globulin ratio
• Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
• Direct bilirubin
• Globulin
• Total bilirubin
